Finding Your Own Light and Extinguishing the Gaslight


I never said that…. You have no right to feel that way… Everyone thinks you are wrong… That never happened… 


In 1944 the term “gaslight” came into the public consciousness with the film by the same name. In 2022, gaslighting was named by Merriam-Webster as the word of the year. Yet many people still do not fully understand it and the word is misused all the time. This month we will review the who, what, why, and how of gaslighting, but more importantly, we will talk about how to recover from gaslighting, how being gaslighted affects healing, and how to slowly learn to trust yourself. By the end of this month, you will never be unclear about what gaslighting is again, which means nobody will ever be able to gaslight you about gaslighting.  In the world the way it is, none of us will ever be “gaslight-free” but by understanding what it is, how to sidestep it, how it affects you, and how you internalize it – you will be able to strengthen your process of healing.
